Types of Channel Letters:gallery-channel-04-sm1

  1. Standard Channel Letters are constructed of a U-shaped channel made of aluminum, which will never rust. The aluminum construction of each letter has an aluminum back accu-welded to an aluminum 5” deep return in any color. Once the aluminum channel letter is formed, custom blown 15mm neon glass tubes are installed in the center of the letter for even light distribution, which is installed with glass stands and tied down with a copper wire. Each letter is then properly wired to a transformer located remotely behind the wall, or located within an aluminum raceway. The letters have Plexiglas faces which can be a variety of colors, as well as white Plexiglas with 3M translucent vinyl overlay for an even greater selection of color choices, all mounted to the channel letter return using a ¾” trim cap edge.

  2. gallery-reverse-a02-sm1Reverse Pan Channel Letters (commonly referred to as Halo Letters), are fabricated using solid aluminum faces and returns, and are mounted to the wall using clear lexan backs, with L-clip attachment. The letters are designed to mount to the wall approximately 1-1/2” off the wall and create a neon halo-lit effect at night when the neon lights bounce off the wall or background around the formed letters. This type of illuminated letter is indirect and isn’t as bright as a regular channel lettering, but its soft elegant look is extremely desirable for certain businesses. Open Face Exposed Neon Channel Letters are fabricated similar to Standard Channel letters, which can be left open without a Plexiglas face, or with a clear Plexiglas face exposing the raw neon, as well as the interior of the letter itself. Open face channel letters are the most effective, brightest type of channel letter.

  3. dual-12-sm1Dual Light Channel Letters combines the construction of a regular channel letter with the construction of a reverse pan channel letter. The letters are fabricated using aluminum returns, Plexiglas faces, with clear lexan backs pegged off the wall 1-1/2” to create the neon halo effect of a reverse pan channel, while simultaneously illuminating the front of the letter. Dual light channel letters are very effective and attractive both day and night.

Channel Letter Mounting Methods

Channel Letters can be mounted in one of two ways. They can be mounted either directly to the wall individually or mounted on an aluminum 8” deep rectangular box called a raceway.

  1. Individually Mounted: These letters look aesthetically better than raceway mounted letters since raceways tend to be distracting in the background and create awkward shadows. Channel Letters require two holes for each letter drilled through the wall for wiring an entry and exit point. This amounts to a lot of holes in the wall.

  2. Raceway Mounted: Many landlords prefer the raceway style of mounting so that there are fewer holes going into their building with the raceway painted to match the building. Raceways are often required and requested for concrete tilt up and concrete block buildings, which are becoming increasingly common.
